The official jail site says it houses county, state, and federal inmates and serves Pulaski County law-enforcement agencies, including the sheriff, Somerset Police Department, Burnside Police Department, Science Hill Police Department, Eubank Police Department, Ferguson Police Department, Kentucky State Police, and Probation and Parole. Pulaski County Jail History

The detention center's own history page gives Pulaski County jail records a long local timeline. It cites a first known jail reference on September 24, 1799, and says a small log house near Henry Francis' home was chosen as the first jail site on April 22, 1800. A purpose-built jail followed in 1802 at a listed cost of $125. A later brick jail on the Public Square was completed December 25, 1820, then sold in 1868. The history page also notes that a later jail occupied the top three floors of the old courthouse before the current Hail Knob Road facility opened in November 1989.
